THE INCREDIBLE ADVENTURE OF A REFUGEE MOTHER IN #GREECE

On July 7, a refugee mother who came to Greece with her two young children, aged six and eight, went to the Malakasa facility wanting to file an asylum application , so that she could then live with her husband and father of the children, who is a recognized refugee in another European country.

In Malakasa, as in the Diavata structure for northern Greece, asylum requests from refugees who come to the mainland without going through the reception centers on the islands or the Evros outpost are recorded.

The mother had tried the previous day to make an appointment with the structure through the digital platform of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, in order to be given a date to register her asylum request, so that the process could begin and her residence in the country could be considered legal. She was unsuccessful.

As noted by the organization “Refugees Support Aegean – RSA”, which published yesterday what the mother and her two children went through at the hands of the Greek authorities, the platform has not been operational since June 12, the date of entry into force of the new procedures of the European Pact on Migration and Asylum.

The family started and went to the Malakasa facility to avoid being registered without an appointment, as often happened in the past when the digital platform went out of service.

However, not only were they denied entry to the facility and their request for asylum, which refugees have the right to request before any Greek authority, was not accepted, but the facility's managers took the outrageous action of calling the Police to arrest the family!

Indeed, the mother and two young children were arrested, held in a police station detention center in inhumane conditions – one child was sick – and referred to trial for illegal residence under the Plevris law, even though they had gone to the Greek authorities themselves to seek asylum. Even more outrageous, because they were not allowed to file an asylum application, a deportation order was issued against them and they were transferred to the Amygdaleza detention center for deportation.

The RSA, which failed to prevent the deportation decision with its interventions, filed a report with the Ministry's Reception and Identification Service, while it appealed to the Court against the deportation decision. Two days later, finally the family was transferred from the detention center to the Malakasa reception center to register their request for asylum.

According to Greek media 7 people have been rescued while the investigation into the detection of missing people continues.

A tragedy occurred in a sea area of Lesvos, as four immigrants were retrieved without their senses after a shipwreck.

According to the Coast Guard, seven people have been saved, while the research on the detection of other missing people in the sea continues.
